Object description
Riga Zoo houses around 3000 animals of nearly 430 species 40 of which are enlisted in Red Book. It has an area of about 20 ha.
14 October 1912 is regarded as the date when Riga Zoological Garden was officially founded. With some improvements, the office, the main gates, ticket offices, the elephant house and the monkey house are still in the same buildings. The Zoo’s development was stalled by World War I. In August 1917 the Zoo was closed. In 1933 the Zoo reopened in a part of its former territory.
Opening hours: winter 10.00 -17.00; summer 10.00 – 19.00. Entrance fee 7 Eur
