Sandis story
I did my first Camino hike in August 2011. It was a combination of Camino del Norte (from Santander City) and Camino Primitivo in total of 700 km.
In Primitivo, I proposed my beloved Brigit. I had decided I wanted to do it in the Way, and the plan came true! It happened in a beautiful place – in albergue “Valdedios” (God’s ear), a monastery church. At the morning service, she accepted my engagement ring.
The second time in September 2014, we did a section of 700 km from the French Way together with Father Andrejs Medins and several persons from Brukna. He said then that I had to make art for the church. So, did I. I created the sketches, those were confirmed, and we started to work. It took me seven years to complete the figures of 12 apostles what are placed next to the Church of Brukna. One of them is St. James’s sculpture with the iconic shell. I created this sculpture with the idea that one day also in Latvia will be Santiago Way.
And now, in May 2020, the first messengers of the St James’s Way Association in Latvia developing the stages of St. Maynard’s path from Riga to Skaistkalne has reached Brukna and sculpture of St. James.
The road is coming!
