The year 2021 is special for pedestrians of St. Jacob’s Road, because on December 31, 2020, with the opening of the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the anniversary year of St. Jacob was declared. Such a year is proclaimed every time in July 25, St. Jacob’s Day, is a Sunday. Therefore, on July 25, the Latvian St. Jacob’s Road Association, which forms St. Jacob’s Road in Latvia, invites to today’s celebrations in Skaistkalne. On this day, a symbolic sign will be consecrated in Skaistkalne and erected on the Latvian-Lithuanian border, indicating how many kilometers can still be measured to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Representatives of the St. Jacob’s Way Association, together with supporters, go on foot to the celebration of St. Jacob’s Day. July 19 pl. 9 they started their journey from Riga St. Jacob’s Cathedral.
