News from the Association of St. James Way in Latvia
The year 2021 is special for pilgrims of St. James Way because, with the opening of the Holy Door of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on December 31, 2020 the celebration year of St. James was declared. Such a year is declared every time when St. James’ Day, July 25 falls on a Sunday. Therefore, on July 25, the Latvian Association of St. James Way, who is working out the St. James route in Latvia, invites you to the celebration in Skaistkalne today. On this day, a symbolic sign will be blessed in Skaistkalne Church and it will be set up on the Latvia-Lithuania border, indicating how many kilometers must be covered to reach the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Representatives of the Association of St. James Way and their supporters are on the way to take part in the celebration of St. James Day. They set out from St. James Cathedral in Riga on July 19.
